In 2012, our lighthouse was honoured by the exhibition “Lighthouses” at the National Maritime Museum and was the subject of a remarkable dedicated website (see overleaf). We improved reception at the museum for our foreign visitors and restored the exterior of the launch Matelier. Fine events also punctuated the tourist season…

If 2011 was the year of the fourth centenary of the lighting of a beacon at the Cordouan Lighthouse—an occasion marked by numerous reports on the lighthouse and by the day of 11 June, remarkably organised by the SMIDDEST and long to be remembered—2012 will be the year of the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of its listing as a historic monument. It will also be an opportunity for the Ministry of Culture to put online a remarkable website dedicated to the lighthouse.
The Association will be represented at the 2nd philatelic fair in Soulac-sur-Mer (11 September), the Sainte-Hélène fair (17 and 18 September), the associations forum in Le Verdon-sur-Mer (1 October), and the 2nd National Lighthouse Day meetings at the Baleines Lighthouse (18 and 19 October).
It will also be the occasion of an exhibition on lighthouses at the National Maritime Museum, Place du Trocadéro in Paris, inaugurated on 7 March and closing on 4 November, in which Cordouan will be given pride of place. Finally, on 29 June 2012, the last rotation of State lighthouse keepers will take place, but thanks to our action, the presence of keepers employed by the SMIDDEST will be ensured…
