N°26
Issue no. 24 of L’Écho des Battures looked back at the launch of the transformation works of the Cordouan Lighthouse and Lighthouse and Beacon Museum, housed in the former premises of the Grave Lighthouse.
The opening of the museum was then planned for June 2022, a schedule made uncertain by the hazards inherent in a project of this scale, compounded by material shortages that led to several delays.
N°25
Saturday, 24 July 2021 marked a historic date for Cordouan: the lighthouse was officially inscribed on the World Heritage List.
Meeting in Fuzhou (China), the 44th session of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee recognised the Outstanding Universal Value of Cordouan. This distinction honours the monument, for which the Association has worked with vigilance since 1981, as well as all institutional partners, local authorities and citizens committed to the preservation, enhancement and transmission of this unique heritage.

A few more days of waiting…
At the end of July, the 44th session of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee was due to deliver its verdict: would the Cordouan Lighthouse join the list of World Heritage sites, alongside emblematic monuments such as the Pyramids of Egypt or the Grand Canyon? Listed on the Tentative List since 2002, Cordouan was then at a decisive moment in its history.
