The Association for the Preservation of the Cordouan Lighthouse was founded exactly 35 years ago, on a day in November 1981. Senator Bœuf assumed its presidency. At the time, the Lighthouse and Beacon Administration planned to decommission Cordouan and close the lighthouse. Our Association, supported by its many members, continues its work to enhance the Cordouan Lighthouse by accompanying groups at the request of our various institutional partners, and takes part in the work towards the lighthouse’s inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Furthermore, as part of our mission to raise public awareness about lighthouses and beacons, we have just acquired a new educational tool for the museum: a nautical chart of the mouth of the Gironde estuary, on which each maritime navigation light is represented with its specific attributes—colour, rhythm and power—using LEDs and optical fibres…
