2026

N°38

You will find here issue no. 38 of our newsletter Écho des Battures, which outlines the association’s position regarding the planned withdrawal of the Cordouan Lighthouse keepers proposed by the Prefect of Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

2025

N°37

As the Association was unable to travel to Cordouan for its annual outing, it chose to organize a visit for its members instead: the less well-known Hourtin Lighthouse, which around fifty of them took part in. Despite the weather being considered uncertain the day before, we were treated to a beautiful day.

N°36

Once again this summer, our museum was an essential cultural and tourist destination on the Pointe du Médoc.
We hosted three temporary exhibitions in a dedicated gallery.

N°35

The year 2024 was a year of transition for our Association. After a year 2023 marked by numerous events linked to the reopening of the museum and the bicentenary of the Fresnel lens, we returned in 2024 to a sustained pace. The museum was open to the public from the first day of the February holidays until the last day of the All Saints’ holidays…

2024

N°34

Classified as a historic monument in 2017, the Matelier launch, displayed in the lighthouse garden, is now showing signs of deterioration. Marine carpentry work is essential, but the cost remains high. With the support of partners and the State, the Association submitted a funding application to the Maritime Intervention Fund in the spring.

2023

N°33

The year 2023 brought great satisfaction to the team of volunteers that we form:
– the opening of the thoroughly renovated museum, which welcomed more than 15,000 visitors,
– the bicentenary of Augustin Fresnel’s optics, celebrated at Cordouan.

N°32

Whatever the time of year, an outing to the Cordouan Lighthouse remains a much-appreciated moment for our members.
Despite sometimes capricious weather, good spirits were present, as shown by the photograph accompanying this issue of L’Écho.

N°31

Many distinguished guests responded to the invitation of the Association of the Cordouan and Grave Lighthouses and the Conservatoire du Littoral to inaugurate the museum.
This official day, held on Wednesday 24 May, marked an important milestone in the life of the site.

N°30

At the local level, our museum, fully renovated, expanded and modernised, is preparing to reopen its doors, probably from 8 April, with operations still partially adapted.
A few points remain to be finalised, but it is essential to relaunch the momentum, especially as the school holiday period is approaching.

2022

N°29

The museum fit-out work is progressing, step by step.
Since September, each week has brought its share of progress, even if technical adjustments take time. As is often the case in a new building, not everything is immediately operational: the alarm system, the fibre connection or deliveries may still delay the schedule.
At this stage, an opening is being considered for the spring holidays 2023, without however setting a specific date.emps 2023, sans toutefois fixer de date précise.

N°28

The Lighthouse Evenings are among the highlights of the events programme at the Pointe de Grave.
Included in the cultural programme of the municipality of Le Verdon-sur-Mer and widely promoted by the local press, communication materials and social media, these two evenings lived up to all their promises. In July and then in August, visitors were able to climb the lighthouse and discover, at night, an exceptional panoramic view of the mouth of the Gironde.

N°27

Looking back on the members’ outing of 25 June.
After two years without an outing and with works at Cordouan remaining inaccessible, the pleasure of getting together again for a festive day was intact. All the ingredients were in place to make this visit a success… despite heavy showers that accompanied the group from Port-Médoc, aboard the amphibious barge and then on the peyrat. It was necessary to make do with the weather and dry off as best we could: that too is part of the Cordouan experience.
